Abstract

Objectives: This study explores the concept and characteristics of ambiguous loss and suggests the necessity for intervention.
Methods: For the purpose of this study, theoretical considerations from previous studies related to ambiguous loss and treatment models applicable to domestic clinical settings were introduced, and cases presented.
Results: This study introduces the ABC-X model for family stress management, six essential intervention guidelines for addressing ambiguous loss, and three treatment models: Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MCBT), Acceptance-Focused Therapy (ACT) and narrative therapy.
Conclusions: Research has indicated that narrative therapy proves to be a successful approach in addressing ambiguous loss by facilitating open discussions about family experiences and by promoting a constructive reinterpretation of negative perceptions. This study identifies and selects cases of ambiguous loss and provides direction for the involvement of specialized family counselors. The findings will serve as a crucial guidebook for future research on ambiguous loss within families and family counseling, offering valuable guidance for professionals in the field.
